Five questions every sponsor should answer before raising

Most raises stall on questions that could have been answered in the first meeting. Here are the five we always ask.

We review hundreds of projects every year. The sponsors who raise fastest are not always the ones with the biggest projects — they are the ones who have already answered the questions investors will ask. These are the five we always start with.

1. Where does the cash come from?

Be specific about revenue: who pays, under what contract, for how long and in which currency. Contracted, indexed revenue changes the whole conversation.

2. What could go wrong — and what happens then?

Show us your downside case before we build it ourselves. Investors trust sponsors who understand their risks.

3. How much of your own capital is in?

Skin in the game aligns everyone. It does not have to be large, but it has to matter to you.

4. Who builds and who operates?

Execution risk sits with people. Name the contractors and operators, and show what they have delivered before.

5. How do investors get their money back?

Refinancing, sale or long-term yield — every structure needs a credible path to liquidity, agreed on day one.

A clear answer to these five questions can cut months off a raise.

If you can answer all five, we would like to hear from you. Submit your project and a partner will review it within two weeks.
